Frequently asked questions

The questions we hear most often, answered straight. For service-specific questions, every product page (car, truck, contractor, etc.) has its own FAQ block at the bottom.

Common questions

Are you an insurance carrier or a broker?

CY Financial Solutions is an independent broker. We do not write the policy ourselves — we shop it across our carrier panel and bring back the best fit. The carriers underwrite and pay claims; we coordinate, advocate, and follow up.

What does it cost to use a broker?

Nothing extra to you. The carrier pays our commission out of the premium. The premium is the same whether you buy through us or directly from the carrier — but you get the comparison, the advocacy, and someone who actually picks up the phone.

How fast can you write a policy?

Most personal-auto and small-commercial policies bind same-day once the application is complete. Trucking and contractor lines depend on underwriting questions but rarely take more than 24 to 48 hours. Same-day proof of insurance is normal.

Will my rate go up after a claim?

It depends on the carrier, the type of claim, and whether you were at fault. A not-at-fault claim usually has no rate impact. An at-fault claim does. We re-shop the market at every renewal so a rate jump on one carrier doesn't mean you have to live with it.

Do you sell my information?

No. We do not sell, trade, or share your contact information with marketing networks. The only places your information goes are (a) the insurance carriers we shop on your behalf, and (b) regulators if required by law.

What states are you licensed in?

The agency is licensed across Pennsylvania (agency license #908304, NPN 19262221), headquartered in Devon, Chester County, and serves the entire state by phone, email, and same-day digital binding. Our producers also hold individual non-resident licenses in Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Maryland — every number is published on our licenses page so you can verify it through NIPR.

Can you handle the claim for me?

We coordinate the claim with your carrier, walk you through the adjuster process, and follow up to make sure the claim moves. The carrier pays the claim — we do the legwork. See our claims page for step-by-step instructions and links to each partner carrier's claims center.

What carriers do you work with?

Our panel includes A-rated carriers across personal and commercial lines. The specific carriers competitive for any given quote depend on the line, the risk profile, and the territory. Visit our carriers page for the current panel.

Do I have to come into the Devon office?

No. Almost everything binds remotely — phone, email, e-signature. The Devon office is open seven days a week if you want to come in, but the entire process can be done without it.

How often should I shop my insurance?

At every renewal. Carrier rate filings change. Carriers that were competitive last year often aren't this year. We re-shop the panel for every client at every renewal.

How much money will I be able to save by changing to limited tort?

This is the question our office hears most. Limited tort commonly trims 10 to 20 percent off the bodily-injury portion of a Pennsylvania auto premium — but it waives most of your right to sue for pain and suffering after a crash, with narrow exceptions. We price full tort and limited tort side by side on every quote so you see your actual number, not an average.

Can I save money by raising my deductible?

Usually yes on the comprehensive and collision portion — but be honest about the trade. A higher deductible means more claims land entirely on you: our commercial desk sees plenty of cargo claims that never exceed the deductible, so the client pays out of pocket and the policy never responds. Pick the deductible you could genuinely write a check for tomorrow, then let us shop the panel at that number.

Will my rate change because my kid got his license?

Almost always, yes. Pennsylvania carriers expect every licensed household member to be listed on the policy (or formally excluded), and a newly licensed teen raises the premium — sometimes substantially. The levers that soften it: good-student discounts, assigning the teen to the oldest vehicle, and re-shopping the panel, because carriers price young drivers very differently. Call us before the permit becomes a license and we will price it ahead of time.
